- The “Valle de Los Gigantes” nature reserve has cardoons standing up to 62 feet.
- Jesuit missionary Juan de Fernando named the area San Felipe in 1746.
- The Consag Island, a granitic outcrop was given its name in honor of Jesuit Missionary Fernando Consag, who mounted several exploration and detailed cartography expeditions of the area.
Most of the gastronomic options in town come from the catch of the of the day. There’s restaurants near the boardwalk where you can find seafood , as well as gourmet and traditional Mexican cuisine. You can’t miss out trying the fish and shrimp tacos, clams and even some shrimp stuffed chiles güeritos, and grilled octopus tacos, among foodie favorites.
Facing San Felipe is the Sea of Cortez, with a vast blue ocean, warm weather and its natural areas where you can enjoy many activities like; exploring Valle de los Gigantes or a relaxing visit to the Puertecitos hot springs, as well as all the other things you can enjoy on the coast.
Why is San Felipe the sports fishing paradise of Baja California? The reasons are great beaches and camping facilities; you can fish for trout, sea bass, black bass and sierra. You should go out preferably in the early hours of the morning, around 6 am. We recommend going with a local fisherman. Fish responsibly.
