“Our Magical Town”. The only “Pueblo Magico” (places across the country that imbue certain characteristics that make them unique and historically significant) located on the border; where the Wine Route begins, with some of the oldest vineyards in the state. Like in the majority of the state, the influence of urban cooking in local food has been very noticeable and fascinating visitors tastebuds. “El Foodtruck”, voted “Best Foodtruck” in the Best of Baja list by the San Diego Red website is a must when in town.
Their bread is known to everyone as delicious, and even a reason by its own for tourists to visit this “Magical Town”. There’s many traditional bakeries in town where you can try and take home the delicious oven baked bread.
The culture vibe and museums are a witness to local history. At Museo Comunitario de Tecate you can learn about the beginnings of Tecate, as well as CEARTE, where different disciplinary artists display their artwork.
This town is famous for their Tecate beer, the first production was in 1944! Tecate is the first canned beer in Mexico. Today there’s some craft beer production houses, adding themselves to the state’s brewery movement.
The Wine Route begins here, known as “La Puerta Norte” (northern gateway) where the oldest vineyards in Mexico await; travel, discover the vineyards, vines and jot down the date for Fiestas de la Vendimia, which happens every year.
